Touch & Writing
Conventionally, resistive touch screens are available in small sizes, for PDA or mobile phone usage, normally utilizing pen or stylus input, this size being generally too small to consider palm rejection. Larger (more than 10.4″) touch screens are conventionally utilized with finger touch input. Large resistive touch screens have rarely, in the past, employed pen input.
The main difference, operationally, lies in the different sensitivity requirement of the screen’s receptors. Pen activation requires less than 10g input, while finger or hand contact dictates activation force exceeding 500g/sq cm.
With the introduction of Microsoft’s Vista OS, which supports pen input in touch screens for medium and large notebook PCs, there is a new requirement for large touch screens offering pen input function. Thus far, the solution has been to utilize other touch screen technologies in this application.
AMT is pleased to have developed and designed a unique pen input capability in resistive touch screen technology. The specification is ideal for tablet PC application, delivering a wider range of choices for cost effective input solutions.
