PCI Solution Capabilities
AMT projected capacitive input (PCI or PCAP) touch solutions are designed to meet the needs of different applications. We make consistent efforts to advance the capabilities of PCI touch controllers. The superior performance of PCI controllers is demonstrated in their ability to handle gloved touch, water, and noise. The exceptional features of AMT PCI solutions are as follows.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is prevalent in our environment. EMI can have an effect on most electronic devices. For PCI products, EMI noise can interfere with the accurate detection of touch events.
PenMount adopts powerful firmware and hardware techniques to avoid noise interference at different frequency bandwidths and maintain the accuracy of touch detection by the PCI touch controller. AMT PCI solutions meet CS (Conducted Susceptibility) 3Vrms and RS (Radiated Susceptibility) 3V/m EMC standards. Some PenMount control boards are able to meet CS 10Vrms and RS 10V/m EMC standards. Thus, AMT PCI solutions are among the best on the market and able to fulfill the requirements of industrial PCI touch applications.
In medical and industrial applications, gloved touch is a primary concern. PCI touchscreens detect touch by measuring minute changes in the electric field as a finger approaches the surface of the touchscreen. Gloved touch can increase the difficulty of touch detection.
PenMount PCI controllers apply unique algorithms so that gloved touch, whether with latex gloves, cotton gloves, or work gloves, can be detected effortlessly and accurately by AMT PCI touchscreens.
Since water is conductive, false touch signals may be generated when water comes into contact with the PCI touch panel. Thus, for mission critical systems or equipment, the ability to prevent false touch events caused by water is an important part of PCI touch specifications.
Currently our PCI products are able to avoid the occurrence of false touch signals when there is a small amount or flowing water on the surface of the touch panel. If water is present, dry areas of the touch panel surface will still function properly. Also, touch functionality will be turned off automatically when a large amount of water is detected. Once water on the surface is wiped dry, the touch panel will resume normal touch functionality.
Thick Glass Application
It is common for outdoor or special PCI touch panels require support for thick glass application. Since glass thickness is directly related to detected signal strength, when glass is thick, the PCI controller detects fewer signals. PenMount effectively increases signal strength and maintains an optimal noise ratio to allow customers to enjoy normal operation with thick glass support while effectively avoiding false touch points. This is the key to PenMount’s thick glass support performance.
