What is the working principle behind a projected capacitive touch panel?

There are two ITO layers beneath the glass of a PCI touch panel which form balanced X axis and Y axis electrical fields. When a finger nears the glass surface, the finger forms a new electrical field with the X axis or Y axis electrodes and causes partial changes in capacitance.  The controller will determine the location of the touch according to changes in capacitance.

What is the structure of AMT PCI touch panels?

AMT touch panels can have one of two structures.  The first is a Glass-Film-Film-Film (GFFF) structure where the third layer of Film is used primarily to shield the panel from noise interference emanating from the LCD.  The second is a Glass-Film-Film (GFF) structure.  Paired with the latest generation of PenMount controllers, this structure can also block noise interference from LCDs.

What are the restrictions and precautions if AMT provides PCI OCA-Film-Film (AFF) products to allow customers to bond glass in-house?

Only distributors with the assembly capabilities and certified by AMT are provided with AFF products for in-house bonding.

What size dimensions are supported by AMT PCI touch panels?

Currently, AMT can provide 3.5” – 24” PCI touch panels and is developing larger PCI touch panel sizes.

What is the maximum touch panel size supported by AMT PCI COF?

Currently, the largest PCI touch panel supported by AMT PCI COF is 10.4”.

What are the different cover glass thicknesses supported by AMT PCI touch panels?

Standard AMT PCI touch panel products can support 1.1/ 1.8/ 2.8mm cover glass.  In addition, we can also provide custom firmware and sensor to support glass thicknesses up to 15mm.

What is the light transmittance of Clear AMT PCI touch panel surfaces?

The cover glass of standard GFFF structure has a light transmittance rate of 87% ±3%.  The light transmittance rate of GFF structure is 90% ± 3%.

What types of cover glass options are available?

AMT provides Clear, Décor Glass, AG, and AR class types.

What is the surface hardness of AMT PCI touch panels?

The surface hardness of the glass used on AMT PCI touch panels can reach Mohs 5.  AG or AR coatings on the glass surfaces has a hardness of 7H.

Other than regular glass, can other PC or composite materials be selected for the cover lens of AMT PCI touch panels?

Since PC materials lack hardness it has usage limitations.  Composite materials are more expensive than standard glass.  Therefore, we do not recommend using these two material types.

What functions can AMT PCI touch panels provide?

AMT PCI touch panels paired with PenMount controllers can meet EMC Level III standards, excludes false touches in the presence of water, supports gloved operation, and satisfies thick cover glass requirements.

Why do PCI touch panels need EMC noise protection?

The environment is full of noise interference.  This interference can come from LCDs, radio transmissions, motors, power sources, etc.  Since PCI controllers determine touch location by detecting changes in capacitance, the PCI panel must be protected from EMC noise to avoid incorrect signal determination.

Why do PCI touch panels need water immunity?

Since PCI controllers determine touch location by detecting changes in capacitance and water is a good conductor, the PCI touch controller may not be able to distinguish between finger operation and water on the touch panel surface.  Thus, AMT PCI touch panels have an excellent water handling mechanism to avoid generation of false touches.

Can AMT PCI touch panels be operated normally when there is water on the touch surface?

AMT PCI touch panels paired with the latest generation PenMount controllers provide no false touch generated in wet areas and single point operation in dry areas functionality. However, our recommendation is to dry the touch surface when it is wet.

Are false touch signals generated when saltwater splashes onto AMT PCI touch panels?

AMT PCI touch panels paired with the latest generation of PenMount controllers will not generate false touch signals whether the liquid on the panel surface is saline (0.9% NaCl), blood (0.9% NaCl), or seawater (3.5% NaCl).

AMT PCI touch panels can support popular glove types such as cotton, latex, rubber, etc.  If you have a special glove requirement, please contact our sales representatives.
