Chip in shortage, AMT at advantage
27 Aug, 2021With the spread of the pandemic, the demand for personal digital tools has risen significantly. On the other hand, major chip manufacturer TSMC has just announced on August 25th that the prices of all semiconductor manufacturing processes will increase by 20%, which is a considerable shock to IC designers. AMT is also facing tight delivery pressure for touch controllers, but our efforts and perseverance have begun to bear fruit. We are catching up on our orders and will ship our products as soon as they are ready.
Satisfactory Performance
The AMT projected capacitive (PCAP) touch panel is coupled with the PenMount PCAP controller, which uses chips from Microchip MCU. PenMount is our brand, which has nearly 30 years of market experience serving the industrial, medical, and HMI fields. Two main PenMount PCAP control ICs are PenMount P2-08 and PenMount P2-06. Both are equipped with self-developed firmware, automatically adjusting and reducing noise interference caused by assembly or the environment. It has outstanding performance, excellent reliability while meeting industrial and medical safety standards.

Since May 2021, there has been an acute shortage of touch chips. The situation for customers is even dire as the need for medical equipment such as respirators were urgent. AMT has worked diligently to negotiate with Microchip. We went into length in showing Microchip the value of supplying medical equipment manufacturers. We are thankful that Microchip appreciates the purpose of our demand and has supported AMT. As of today, we are delighted to announce that Microchip's ICs have been delivered since August! It is just like rainfall in time of a great drought! AMT will speed up the production of PenMount PCAP controllers and ship them to you promptly. The steady perseverance of AMT has paid off! With this supply, we will be able to meet customer demand for orders beyond Q4, 2021. However, calculated planning for supply-chain strategies remains essential, as the uncertainty of the global semiconductor shortage has not been resolved (some experts suggest it may continue up to 2023).
