Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch panels which provides an interactive interface between machines and humans, is becoming a necessary part of electrical devices. Cover glass at the outermost layer for protection is crucial for customers to assess the durability of these inks, especially in devices exposed to UV radiation, which can cause fading or peeling over time. Our market offers a range of inks, including ceramic, general-purpose, and our special find, advanced inks. This edition of our newsletter highlights the unique benefits of each ink type, empowering you to choose with confidence for lasting performance and aesthetic appeal.

Advanced Ink

AMT has researched the market and adopted a more durable, advanced ink. A carefully formulated blend that combines the best attributes of ceramic and general-purpose inks. This ink retains the ease of processing, wide range of color options, and compatibility with thin glass, characteristic of general-purpose inks. Additionally, it is enhanced for improved weather resistance, having successfully passed stringent tests such as QUV ASTM G-154 and Q-SUN MIL-STD 810H, each for 1000 hours. This ensures it prevents ink peeling and color fading effectively, making advanced ink a reliable choice for outdoor PCAP devices.

General Purpose Ink

The inks widely favored for glass printing consist of pigments, solvents, and polymer resins, boasting the ability to cure at modest temperatures below 200°C. Their benefits are numerous: streamlined processing, consistent color fidelity, the capability for multi-color overprinting, and the versatility to create intricate designs on décor glass products. Additionally, they are well-suited for thinner glass substrates, starting at just 0.2mm. Despite these advantages, general-purpose inks do face challenges in outdoor environments, where they may exhibit reduced weather resistance, leading to potential fading or delamination from the glass.

Ceramic Ink

Traditionally, ceramic inks have been the go-to choice for outdoor products, prized for their exceptional weather resistance. Metal Oxide pigment and ceramic frit, these inks are applied to glass and then fused at high temperatures ranging from 450-600°C. This process not only ensures outstanding durability but also affixes the color firmly onto the glass surface, enhancing weather resistance. However, this high-temperature firing method comes with its challenges, including potential variations in color, a more restricted palette of shades, less than optimal coverage, and the necessity for using thicker glass substrates (≥2.8mm).

Advanced Ink from AMT is Your Best Selection

AMT adopts the advanced ink which not only boasts exceptional weather resistance but also features a thin profile, extensive coverage, and great resistance to chemicals and high temperatures. This ink effectively combines the benefits of both ceramic and general-purpose inks while showcasing distinct performance traits that fulfill the demands of outdoor PCAP touch products.
