Lightweight Design for PenMount Touch Controller Drivers
03 Sep, 2026Over the past year, the rapid expansion of AI server deployment worldwide has driven up the costs of memory and storage components, including DRAM and SSDs. For industrial computers, embedded systems, and edge computing devices, making efficient use of limited system resources has become a key part of product design and cost optimization.
To meet the needs of next-generation AIoT and Industry 4.0 applications, PenMount has reviewed and updated its driver architecture by breaking the original PenMount Windows Universal Driver into separate modules. This modular approach provides a more streamlined and focused configuration to meet market expectations for both performance and sustainability.
From All-in-One Support to Flexible Configuration
The PenMount Windows Universal Driver was designed to provide broad product compatibility. A single driver supports multiple generations of Windows, from Windows XP, which requires the WDF CoInstaller, to Windows 11. It also supports USB and RS-232 interfaces, resistive and projected capacitive touch technologies, and several function modules, including Mouse and Digitizer. Because it includes a full set of compatibility components, the driver requires more than 10 MB of storage space.
For projects running 64-bit versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11, PenMount can provide an optimized version when a smaller driver is needed. By removing unneeded legacy compatibility components, the storage space required by the driver can be reduced to about 5 MB. This makes it well suited for AIoT and Industry 4.0 applications where efficient use of system resources and fast deployment are important.
For projects with even tighter storage limits, customers may also request further customization. PenMount can adjust the driver to meet specific project needs, further reducing the required storage space and helping customers lower system costs.
Improving Resource Efficiency and Supporting ESG Principles
