AMT Comprehensive Anti-UV Solution
23 Jan, 2026In the past, AMT launched touch panels with UV protection and successfully applied them across a wide range of outdoor equipment. As the outdoor application market continues to grow, we have observed an increasing number of products equipped only with ePaper (EPD) displays or LCD panels. Without proper anti-UV protection, prolonged exposure to sunlight can damage LCD panels and may even cause ePaper displays to fail within a short period of time. Therefore, AMT has developed an anti-UV protection solution that has passed long-term testing, helping customers address the challenges of harsh outdoor environments.
Challenges in Outdoor Applications
UV light falls outside the range of visible light and can be classified by wavelength into UVA (315 nm – 400 nm), UVB (280 nm – 315 nm), and UVC (100 nm – 280 nm). Although general glass can block most UVB and UVC, UVA can still penetrate glass and damage the internal materials of ePaper or LCD panels, resulting in the following risks:
- Accelerated aging of polarizers within the LCD structure, causing screen yellowing or discoloration
- ePaper displays are not UV resistant; UV may chemically react with electronic ink film and other organic materials, leading to material degradation, yellowing, or even cracking
- When bubbles or cracking occur, severe cases may lead to functional failure, reducing product stability and service life
ePaper & LCD Anti-UV Design
To address these challenges, AMT provides anti-UV protection solutions specifically designed for ePaper and LCD panels, enabling long-term stability and appearance quality in outdoor environments. AMT anti-UV display solutions offer the following features:
- Effectively reduces UV damage to LCD polarizers
- Minimizes the impact of UV on ePaper electronic ink film and other organic materials
- Provides long-lasting UV protection. Based on full-spectrum UV simulation and conversion evaluation conducted by AMT, the solution is estimated to operate for approximately 4.5 years under outdoor conditions in Miami, or about 10 years under outdoor conditions in Munich
- Suitable for long-term outdoor operation in applications such as outdoor digital signage, kiosks, EV charging stations, and aviation and marine equipment
Anti-UV Protection Technology Advantages
AMT’s anti-UV display solution offers multiple implementation options. One of the key technologies is applying AMT’s proprietary anti-UV ink printing to the inner surface of the cover glass. Combined with AMT’s optical bonding service, the anti-UV glass is optically bonded to the ePaper or LCD panel, forming a complete and long-lasting protective structure. The technical advantages include:
- Effectively blocks UV wavelengths below 385 nm, with protection efficiency ≥ 95%
- Maintains light transmittance above 90%, ensuring display brightness and color performance are not affected
- Meets ASTM G154 Cycle 1 and MIL-STD-810H Pro 1 1,000-hour testing standards
- Effectively protects LCD polarizers, ePaper electronic ink film, and other organic materials, significantly extending product service life
AMT’s comprehensive anti-UV solution delivers exceptional protection for outdoor applications. Compared with displays without UV protection, AMT anti-UV display solutions maintain more stable display quality and reliability under prolonged UV exposure.
