PenMount PM1420 and PM1720 both use iBLab’s proprietary intelligent touch IC, the iBTPS-1104. In addition to excellent noise immunity and stable touch performance, they support a range of advanced touch features that enable more intuitive and convenient human-machine interfaces for different applications.

• PadSense: This feature enables a Force Touch-like interaction. Conventional PCAP touchscreens may register unintended input caused by light contact or noise interference. With PadSense, the user must press the touch panel with a finger; the system recognizes a valid touch only when the controller detects an increase in the contact area. This helps reduce unintended touches and improve operational safety, making it suitable for industrial HMIs, medical equipment, and other high-risk applications.
• Pencil and thick-glove operation: Users can operate the touchscreen with a pencil or while wearing thick industrial gloves. This feature supports gloves up to 5 mm thick and pencil input on touch panels up to 21.5”, meeting the needs of industrial sites, cold-chain logistics, and other specialized work environments.
• Touch operation under flowing water: Previously, we offered touch-button operation when water was flowing over the panel. PM1420 and PM1720 controller boards support stable one- or two-finger touch operation under flowing water. Touch operation can also be maintained when machine oil flows across the panel surface in industrial environments.

These features use the advanced firmware versions of PenMount PM1420 and PM1720. We can optimize touch algorithms and operating modes for different application requirements, helping customers develop differentiated touch products.

Technical Highlights

PenMount PM1420 and PM1720 touch controller boards offer several technical advantages for demanding applications such as industrial computers, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and medical equipment. Key highlights include:

• A high-speed, multi-mode intelligent noise immunity mechanism and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The system automatically adjusts its parameters to the environment, maintaining stable touch operation and reducing unintended touches even in industrial settings with strong electromagnetic interference.
• Optimized algorithms enable a reporting rate of up to 130 pps during ten-finger touch operation, ensuring responsive and smooth touch and gesture control.
• Support for cover glass thicknesses of 1.1 / 1.8 / 2.8 / 4.0 mm. Other thicknesses can be developed through customization.
• The default touch resolution is 4096 x 4096, with support for up to 16,384 x 16,384. Suitable for FHD, 2K, and 4K displays, it meets the needs of applications requiring precise operation.

Support for a Wide Range of PCAP Touch Panel Sizes

PenMount PM1420 and PM1720 can be paired with AMT PCAP touch panels, supporting a complete size range from 10.4" to 32". Intelligent noise immunity, a high reporting rate, and high-resolution design help customers meet the development requirements of displays in different sizes.

• The PM1420 controller board supports PCAP touch panels from 10.4" to 15.6"
• The PM1720 controller board supports PCAP touch panels from 15.6" to 32"

Integrated into Sigma Touch Displays

In addition to being paired with AMT PCAP touch panels, PM1420 and PM1720 have been integrated into the AMT Sigma Touch Display series. We can also provide Sigma Open Frame touch displays based on customer requirements, simplifying project development and enabling faster installation.

• 12.1" and 15.6" Sigma Touch Displays use the PM1420 controller board
• 21.5” Sigma Touch Displays use the PM1720 controller board
